Biography

Maylene is a young Gym Leader devoted to martial-arts training. She measures her progress through practice and challenging battles.

Appearance

Maylene has pink hair, a nose bandage and a simple martial-arts outfit, and battles barefoot.

Personality

Modest about her position yet determined in combat, she takes training seriously.

Role in the story

She is Platinum’s fourth Gym Leader. Her badge permits Fly once the player obtains the HM.

Gameplay and encounters

First Gym battle in Platinum: Meditite Lv. 28; Machoke Lv. 29; Lucario Lv. 32. Flying and Psychic moves help against her first two Pokémon. Lucario’s Steel typing changes the matchup: Fire, Ground and Fighting moves hit it super effectively.

Gym puzzle

Push the swinging punching bags to knock away tyres and clear the path through the Gym.

Badge and TM rewards

Win the Cobble Badge and TM60 Drain Punch. The badge allows Fly outside battle once you have the HM. These are the first Gym teams, not the later Battleground rematches.
