Hilbert / Hilda
Playable protagonist. The original Unova adventure begins with this pair of protagonists. Black 2 and White 2 use a different cast of player characters and opening route.
Cheren
Recurring rival. He focuses on strength and challenges your developing team. Keep several usable Pokémon ready for meetings between major story milestones.
Bianca
Friend and rival. Her journey explores a different relationship with training. Her role in the sequels changes, so use a guide for the original games when following these encounters.
Professor Juniper
Unova researcher. She introduces the Pokédex assignment and regional journey. Speak with research contacts when pursuing collection rewards beyond the badge route.

Central opposing trainer. His encounters connect the regional Pokémon themes to Team Plasma. The first story finale involves him rather than a routine Champion battle against Alder.
Alder and Ghetsis
Champion and Team Plasma figure. Their roles diverge during the main story. Prepare for the actual sequence of final encounters instead of assuming earlier Pokémon games’ League structure applies unchanged.
