Dungeon route and essential equipment
Follow the original quest’s major dungeons and the equipment that unlocks them.

Collect the three Spiritual Stones
Begin inside the Deku Tree, then visit Hyrule Castle and follow the Death Mountain route to Dodongo’s Cavern. Zora’s Domain leads to Jabu-Jabu’s Belly. Learn each dungeon item before leaving: the Slingshot, Bomb Bag and Boomerang each solve more than their own boss encounter.
Open the adult route
The Temple of Time marks a major story transition. In Kakariko, Dampé’s grave race provides the Hookshot used to reach the Forest Temple. Complete the Forest Temple before treating time travel as a normal tool for revisiting child-only objectives. Keep notes of routes that require a different age.
Prepare for fire and water
The Fire Temple supplies the Megaton Hammer. The Ice Cavern is a separate preparation stop for the Water Temple, with Blue Fire and Iron Boots central to that part of the route. Carry a bottle for Blue Fire and pay attention to frozen red barriers.
Track water levels rather than guessing
In the Water Temple, record the current water level and revisit the central structure after changing it. Check underwater openings and rooms you could not reach at the previous level. The dungeon rewards systematic inspection; repeatedly circling the same floor is less useful than checking the map for an overlooked connection.
Shadow, Spirit and the finale
The Lens of Truth and appropriate songs open the Shadow Temple route. The Spirit Temple uses both child and adult visits. Once the required medallions are collected, the story directs you toward Ganon’s Castle. This is a recommended sequence; experienced players can vary parts of the adult route.
