Hearts, Skulltulas and useful upgrades
Organise optional exploration by age, time of day and the tool needed to collect a reward.

Separate the two major totals
The original game has 36 Pieces of Heart and 100 Gold Skulltula tokens. Four heart pieces form one Heart Container. Track pieces and tokens independently, and write down the exact location when you collect one; a region’s rough total is not enough to diagnose the last missing item.
Use child and adult checklists
Some rewards are available only at one age or after an earlier action. Planting Magic Beans as a child can create useful adult routes. When you mark something for later, record the missing item and age instead of simply writing “come back.”
Listen for Skulltulas
The distinctive scratching sound is a useful clue. Some appear at night, and some tokens need a ranged collection tool after the enemy is defeated. Look above doors, behind structures and on high walls. Defeating the Skulltula without retrieving its token does not complete that entry.
Prioritise practical upgrades
Bottles, larger wallets, ammunition upgrades and Great Fairy rewards can make the main quest easier. Try side activities between dungeons when your next route is already clear. If a minigame is frustrating, leave a note and return rather than exhausting all your rupees before a necessary purchase.
Keep trading quests in order
The adult trading sequence has timed deliveries. Identify the recipient and travel route before accepting a perishable item. Avoid warping blindly during these steps, and keep a save before a long optional chain if you want to practise it without losing your place.
