Edition covered

Original GameCube release; the Switch remake has changes not covered here.

Biography

Mario is the central hero in these adventures, but their gameplay structures differ substantially. The 3D games focus on movement and mission objectives, Super Mario World uses course exits, and The Thousand-Year Door builds an RPG party around him.

Appearance

Mario’s red cap, moustache, blue overalls and white gloves remain recognisable across very different art styles. Paper Mario deliberately turns that familiar design into a flat, paper-like figure.

Personality

He is cheerful and determined, communicating through movement and reactions as much as dialogue. His willingness to help extends from rescuing Peach to solving local problems for unfamiliar communities.

Role in the story

Each game places him in a different setting and gives familiar relationships a new context. Do not combine Isle Delfino’s investigation, Dinosaur Land’s rescue and Rogueport’s treasure story into one simultaneous event.

Gameplay and encounters

Use the current game’s abilities guide. Caps, F.L.U.D.D., cape flight and badges are different systems; mastery comes from learning the specific movement or battle rules rather than assuming every Mario power-up is available.
