Codec frequencies and saving

The essential support frequencies and how to save your progress in Metal Gear Solid.

Edition covered

Original Metal Gear Solid campaign. Not The Twin Snakes. Konami’s Master Collection manual is used for shared mechanics; button mappings vary.

01

Call for support

Use 140.85 to reach Campbell and Naomi. Their conversations provide mission help, control information and context. Incoming CALL prompts are worth answering before continuing: they can contain information needed for the next part of the mission.

02

Save with Mei Ling: 140.96

Contact Mei Ling on 140.96 to save. Make saving part of your routine after a useful stretch of progress and before ending a session. Our recommendation is to keep more than one save slot when the version you are playing allows it.

03

Use the contact memory

The Codec memory window lists people you have already contacted. Select an existing contact instead of repeatedly entering the frequency. “No response” can mean a wrong frequency, but a correct contact may also be unavailable at that moment. Double-check the number before assuming you missed something.

FIELD NOTE

The original game’s save system and an emulator’s suspend or save-state feature are separate. Know which one you are using.
