SUPER METROID / GETTING STARTED

Exploration and upgrade basics

A starter guide to Super Metroid: record the obstacle, use the map without assuming it is complete, learn each upgrade in a safe room, restock before a long route.

Edition covered

Original SNES game; randomizers and ROM hacks are outside this guide.

01

Record the obstacle

When a route is blocked, note whether the problem is a narrow passage, a high ledge or a barrier. That clue helps you recognise when a new ability makes a return trip worthwhile.

02

Use the map without assuming it is complete

The map helps you orient yourself, but hidden routes still require observation. Look at room edges and suspicious terrain while exploring.

03

Learn each upgrade in a safe room

Practise movement upgrades before using them above hazards. Understanding how to trigger an ability is often more useful than repeatedly attempting the same difficult jump.

04

Restock before a long route

Energy and ammunition reserves matter during unfamiliar exploration. Make use of known recovery points before committing to a boss or a lengthy trip.
