Fishing rod
Fish collection. Cast in front of a fish and react to the full bite, not a nibble. Habitat and time determine possible species; a better cast cannot produce an out-of-season fish.
Net
Bug collection. Approach cautiously and line up the swing. Some insects flee when disturbed, so stop running near a specimen you have not donated.
Shovel
Digging and planting. Use it for fossils, buried objects and planting. Keep a spare if attempting the buried-shovel golden upgrade, because you need a way to dig the first one up.
Axe
Tree removal. Plan the town layout before cutting. Unlike most ordinary tools here, the standard axe can break; do not assume every tool follows New Horizons’ durability rules.
Watering can
Flower care. Water flowers you want to preserve and organise paths to avoid trampling them. Gardening is a daily routine, not a one-time permanent upgrade.
Slingshot
Overhead presents. Watch the sky and align yourself beneath the balloon route. Carrying the tool during ordinary errands avoids a rushed return to storage.
Pockets and home storage
Inventory management. Separate tools, donations and sale items before visiting the shop. Keeping a few free slots prevents a valuable catch from forcing a hurried discard decision.
