Nate / Rosa
Playable protagonist. The sequel starts in Aspertia City and follows a new route through Unova. Do not follow the original games’ first-Gym directions.
Hugh
Recurring rival. His personal conflict with Team Plasma drives several encounters. Keep healing supplies available when following a sequence of story battles away from a Pokémon Center.
Bianca
Research assistant. She helps begin the adventure and introduces your starter choice. Her role is different from her rival role in Black and White.
Cheren
Aspertia Gym Leader. He now runs the first Gym and uses Normal types. The opening badge route is a useful reminder that the sequels are not identical replays.
Colress
Pokémon researcher. His research connects to the sequel’s central conflict. Pay attention to his encounters when the route shifts from Gym travel to Team Plasma objectives.
Iris
League Champion. Her mixed team is the final League test. Dragon coverage helps, but treating every opponent as a Dragon-type can leave gaps against the rest of her roster.
