Single-player & multiplayer modes

Choose a solo challenge, practice session or local battle.

Original Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 64 (1999). Controls use the N64 controller; regional balance differences and later sequels are outside this introductory guide.

1P Game

Fight through a sequence of opponents and bonus stages to reach Master Hand. Adjust the difficulty and starting lives before beginning.

Training Mode

Practise movement and attacks against a CPU with adjustable training settings. Our suggestion: start with recovery, then learn a reliable attack for launching a damaged rival.

Bonus practice

Break the Targets and Board the Platforms offer character-specific challenges. Try them to become more comfortable with each fighter’s movement.

04

VS Mode

Set up local free-for-all or team battles, choosing Time or Stock rules. Human players each need a controller.

FIELD NOTE

Practise one skill at a time in Training Mode before trying it in a match.
