TMs, HMs and held items

TMs are consumed after one use. HMs can be reused, but field abilities require their badges; the Move Deleter in Fuchsia City can remove an HM move. HM08 Dive exists in the game data but is not obtainable or needed in FireRed. Each Pokémon can hold one item. Wild held-item chances only matter when that species can actually be encountered.

Finding hidden items

Get the Itemfinder from Oak’s aide on Route 11 after catching 30 species. Ordinary hidden items are collected by facing their tile and pressing A. The Leftovers under the two Snorlax, the Soothe Bell at Mr. Fuji’s former spot, and the Macho Brace at Giovanni’s former spot require you to stand on the exact tile and activate the Itemfinder.

Berries and trading

FireRed has no Berry-growing soil or Pokémon Contests. Use Berries in battle, give them to Pokémon, or play Berry Crush with compatible local wireless connections. The Berry Forest has renewable hidden Berries. Trade with Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald becomes available after the National Pokédex and Celio’s Ruby/Sapphire Network Machine quest. Trade-only entries describe a valid way to obtain them; some also have minigame or distribution routes.

Original GBA events and LeafGreen

The AuroraTicket and MysticTicket originally required limited events on Game Boy Advance. Their historical distributions have ended; later-release availability is outside this guide. Most locations also apply to LeafGreen, but this catalogue’s wild Pokémon examples are selected for FireRed. Key items cannot be transferred as Pokémon held items.
