Choose your first partner
Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle are the starter choices. Match your supporting team to the obstacles you face rather than expecting your starter to handle every opponent.
Check version exclusives
FireRed and LeafGreen have different encounter lists. Confirm the version before searching for a Pokémon, and distinguish a wild encounter from a trade or evolution requirement.
Understand older move rules
These games use Generation III mechanics: move type determines physical or special damage. Newer-generation movesets and evolution methods may not apply.
Explore the Sevii Islands
The Sevii Islands extend the adventure beyond the familiar Kanto map. Some island content depends on story and Pokédex progress, so revisit areas as new routes open.
