Chell

Returning facility AI

Aperture’s familiar testing overseer returns with a redesigned chassis, sharp remarks and a central role in Chell’s journey.

Wheatley

Personality core

A talkative, blue-eyed core who wakes Chell and tries to help her escape. His improvised plans rarely go smoothly.

Atlas

Co-op test robot

The round, blue-eyed half of the cooperative testing duo. One player controls Atlas while the other controls P-body.

P-body

Co-op test robot

The tall, orange-eyed partner to Atlas. Together they use two portal devices to solve a separate set of cooperative tests.

Cave Johnson

Aperture founder

The founder of Aperture Science, encountered through portraits and recorded announcements in the older parts of the facility.

Caroline

Cave Johnson’s assistant

An important figure in Aperture’s history whose voice appears in the old laboratory recordings alongside Cave Johnson.

Doug Rattmann

Unseen survivor

An Aperture scientist whose hidden dens and wall drawings leave clues about life behind the test chambers. The portrait comes from the companion comic Lab Rat.

Space Core

Personality core

A yellow-eyed core with an enthusiastic, single-minded fascination with space.

Adventure Core (Rick)

Personality core

A green-eyed core who talks like a daring action hero and introduces himself as Rick.

Fact Core

Personality core

A purple-eyed core that recites a stream of supposed facts. Its confident delivery does not make those claims reliable.

Sentry Turrets

Aperture security

Soft-spoken automated guards that track movement with a laser and open fire when a target enters their sight. Shown in their Portal 2 design.

Weighted Companion Cube

Testing companion

A heart-marked puzzle object that helps hold down buttons and becomes an unlikely companion. Shown in its Portal 2 design.
