Great Sea story and dungeon route
Connect the islands and dungeons of the original GameCube campaign.
Spoiler notice: This guide discusses story progression or late-game content.
Original GameCube release; HD sailing and Triforce-quest changes are outside this guide.
| Dungeon | Tool |
|---|---|
| Dragon Roost Cavern | Grappling Hook |
| Forbidden Woods | Boomerang |
| Tower of the Gods | Hero’s Bow |
| Forsaken Fortress return | Skull Hammer |
| Earth Temple | Mirror Shield |
| Wind Temple | Hookshot |
Outset to Dragon Roost
The opening moves through Outset, the Forsaken Fortress and Windfall before the sailing adventure settles into its main route. At Dragon Roost, the Grappling Hook expands both dungeon traversal and sea salvage. Revisit the boat controls after receiving it so treasure hunting becomes a usable option.
Forest Haven and the third pearl
Forest Haven introduces the Deku Leaf before the Forbidden Woods. Its gliding consumes magic, so check your meter before a long crossing. The third pearl involves Greatfish Isle, Windfall and Outset rather than a third early dungeon laid out exactly like the first two.
Tower of the Gods and the fortress return
Place the pearls at the Triangle Islands to open the next major dungeon. Follow the events beneath the Tower, then return to the Forsaken Fortress with your improved equipment. Treat the return as a new objective, not a replay of the opening stealth section.
Find the sages
The Earth Temple uses Medli’s abilities and the Command Melody; the Wind Temple uses Makar’s. Keep track of both Link and the partner when solving rooms. If a door or mechanism appears unreachable, consider which character can move, reflect light or interact with it.
Complete the Triforce before the finale
After restoring the Master Sword’s power, the Triforce hunt supplies the remaining story objective before the final approach. The original GameCube version differs substantially from HD here. Use the original chart process and keep enough rupees available for deciphering.
Check the edition note above before following a route. Suggested preparation and tactics are editorial recommendations; alternative teams and routes can also work.
